THE COMPANIES

Ever since 1972, La Calonica has been the property of family Cattani.  Fernando Cattani is presently the production and marketing manager.  The company is situated between the municipalities of Cortona and Montepulciano and has its own vineyards registered both with Cortona DOC and Nobile di Montepulciano.

The Vineyards
Of approximately 50 hectares of expanse, 38 are vineyards, the majority of which, approximately 65%, is made up of Sangiovese Grosso (Prugnolo Gentile); Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malvasia del Chianti complete the viticultural patrimony of La Calonica.  The gradual renewal of the vineyards has commenced in 1996; plantations having a traditional espalier system have been chosen by the company, with a density of approximately 4,000 plants per hectare.
