THE COMPANIES

At the end of the 1700s, the farm named Poggio Martino Maggiore belonged to the Seminary Vagnotti in Cortona.  Since then, the cultivation of vines has existed, a task carried out by the seminarists, thanks to whom good quality wine was produced.  After a few exchanges of property and five generations, the Faralli family was the farm’s farmers, and only became the owners in the 50s after buying the estate directly from Conte Giovanni Maria De Maigret.  The tradition of wine has always been kept and, most of all, in the last ten years, has incremented the production of wine with the plantation of new vines and the contribution of innovative modifications to the cellar.

The Vineyards
The family-run estate of Juri Faralli is situated in the locality of Fasciano, a little village in the municipality of Cortona.  A modern wine cellar can be found in its centre, while the territory and its vines are situated at an altitude between 250 and 330 m.a.s.l. in particularly exposed areas (north, north-west).  The farm is made up of 70 hectares of land, 5 hectares of which are cultivated as vineyards, the olive groves cover approximately 1 hectare and the remaining land is arable.  The density of the new plants is of 3,300 vinestocks per hectare.  The Company’s entire production is carried out by fully respecting integrated agriculture via ecological supervision. Harvesting is strictly manual with more than one passage in every vineyard and a green harvest in the month of July with the scope of improving the quality of the wine.  Extra virgin olive oil, obtained by the cold extraction of oil from the olives, is handpicked.
