The institute was born by royal decree dated 6th May 1883, which resolved the incorporation of a non-profit corporation under the management of Eng. Vannuccio Vannuccini. The deliberation respected the testamentary wish of Prof. Angelo Vegni, owner of the estate left as inheritance to the school that, in his holographic testament expressed himself as follows: ‘I nominate, establish and wish my sole and perpetual heir to be an agricultural institute under the name of Istituto Vegni Scuola experienced in agriculture in the Agricultural Company’. The institution, with its triple equipment – school, agricultural estate and boarding school – owes its affirmation to the conservation in time of this typicality. The equilibrium between the three entities has allowed its survival and guarantees its raison d’être. The school, without the agricultural company, would lose its rapport with the tillable environment and with practical exercise, the latter elements of which are distinguished in the general panorama of public and private education. The Vineyards Viticulture has always been practiced internally by the company. The older vineyards were planted in the 70s and the new plants (12 hectares) are between 2 and 10 years of age and have a plant density of 5,000 vinestocks per hectare. Adequate rootstocks and certified vine cutting have been used with the aim of putting an emphasis on, and to valorise the potentiality of, ‘our’ terroir. The predominantly used method of growing is that of the cordon spur. Plantation, with the scope of demonstrating and divulging, of all authorised varieties according to the regulations is scheduled with the aim of producing all the different typologies of wine as foreseen by DOC The Products
