Ideally, Leuta was born in 2003 on Denis’s initiative and was soon joined by Enzo.  After over a year of continuous traveling, mostly in Tuscany, a land they are both particularly attracted to, the 2 hectares of vineyards in Vallagarina were increased by another 25 hectares which they purchased in Tuscany in 2004 in the area of San Lorenzo di Cortona, just a stone’s throw away from Lake Trasimeno and the municipality of Montepulciano, on a hill from which the company’s name was given – LEUTA.   It’s a unified farm, not yet set up as a vineyard, but which offers particularly interesting characteristics for the cultivation of grapevines for wine, as it has very clearly transpired from an analysis carried out.  In the autumn of 2004, Progetto Toscana was given a formal and legal aspect constituting LAGARINI s.s. di Zeni & Berlanda and carrying out its first little harvest for the preparation of what will, one day, be Vin Santo LEUTA.  Starting in 2005 and up to this day, the company’s development programme has foreseen the preparation of 2 hectares of vineyards per year, subdivided into six vineyards: Vigna Gialla, Vigna Rossa, Vigna Bianca, Vigna Rosa, Vigna Azzurra and Vigna Arancio, from the colours of the roses that ‘defend’ the rows and from the typologies of grapes that are cultivated, for a total of 8 hectares; the remaining part of the surface area of the company will be planted in a second phase of development which will start in 2015.

The Vineyards
The vineyards are characterised by a system of growing, thought of and planned at obtaining high quality grapes, from the type of plant having high density (7,934 vinestocks per hectare), to the type of growing (cane pruning at 60cm from the ground and 1m of foliage), minimum use of phytosanitary products, to finish off with the total absence of chemical fertilising and irrigation system.  A point worth making regarding the Vigna Bianca is that it’s composed of 12 historical Tuscan clones, the grapes of which will be microvinified in the coming years to select those which are best able to express the potentiality of the terroir of the company which finds its principle characteristic in the clay centre, and will be propagated and successively planted from 2015.
