THE COMPANIES

The family-owned company, Fierli, was purchased in the early 1900s having a mixed cultivation regulation.  The first vineyards were planted in the 70s, giving the company a wine-growing trend.  Under new management, the vineyards were restructured in 2000 and a new cellar was set-up adjacent to the estate where the farm holiday activities are carried out.  At present, the company is extended over a surface area of 15 hectares of which 5 hectares have been invested as vineyards Cortona DOC; 1 hectare as an olive grove, and 9 hectares is arable land.  The farm, Il Fitto, is located on the hilly area south of Cortona, along the street of Chiuso and which connects the city of Cortona with that of Montepulciano.  The company is family run, directed by a young entrepreneur, whose target and determination is that of proposing products of quality, as well as, promoting rural tourism.  The first wine produced was Podere il Fitto Cortona Syrah DOC 2006 vintage.

The Vineyards
The vineyards were completely renovated in 2000 with certified material, different cloning varieties and a plant density of 5,000 vinestocks per hectare.  Apart from Sangiovese and Colorino, the cultivated variety is mainly Syrah.  The land, originally Pliocene, has a sandy silt constituency, with a small presence of clay.  The agronomic procedures are carried out with maximum respect to the environment, controlling fungal diseases of the vines through ecological supervision.
