Ruffino is an important Italian wine-growing company, founded in Pontassieve in 1877 and is composed of seven farms in Tuscany and one in Friuli, situated in the principle denominations of Tuscany (Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Chianti, etc) and of Friuli (Collio, Isonzo). Ruffino is family-run by Marco and Paolo Folonari and numbers, among its historical and prestigious labels that have made history in Italian enology, wines such as Riserva Ducale and Chianti, traditional wines and more recent labels (from Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano to Supertuscan and the whites of Collio) that are appreciated and tasted in numerous countries around the world. The farm of Lodola Nuova has a surface area of over 200 hectares and can count on 87 hectares of vineyards in the area of Montepulciano and approximately 45 hectares in the area of Cortona. Ruffino bought Lodola Nuova in 1990 and from 2004, Lodola Nuova can rely on a big new cellar for vinification and ageing. The cellar has been built according to the logic of gravity, on three levels, to guarantee the least stressful vinification process possible for the grapes.
The People of Reference
The Vineyards Between 1990 and 2002, 48 hectares were planted as vineyards, all having a high plant density (7,000 vines, 1.30 m between the rows and 1.10m on the rows), after the total explantation of a good 62 hectares of cloning amounts of Sangiovese and Trebbiano (2m x 3m, equal to 1,600 vines per hectare). In the last 10 hectares of new plants, the distance on the rows has been reduced to 0,90m in order to obtain a better homogeneity of fruit on the cordon. The Products
